the writer

The writing process is brutal, but I love it.

Last night I went on Amazon searching for new authors to read and what I found was a little disheartening. After about thirty minutes of wading through samples of stories that might have been better served being rewritten or edited, I gave up. This isn’t the first time I have had this experience. Please don’t get me wrong, there are a lot of very good writers coming out, and for the most part my experiences have been good, I just think that there should be some sort of quality filter that one must go through in order to post to some of these self-publishing sites.

The urge to publish and be read can sometimes hurt the quality of the product that is flooding the market.  Trust me, I’m not throwing stones at anyone I’m sure I’m guilty of this as well. I understand the unstoppable urge to put something before it Is ready. I think it taints the industry as a whole and makes it harder for those who are serious about writing to be taken seriously.

Taken as a whole I believe self-publishing one’s own work is a good thing; it allows some very talented writers to be read that might not have had the opportunity otherwise. Self-publishing gives the writer more control and is virtually free to do which are good things. The flip side of that is the lack of quality control, which means almost anyone with a computer can write and publish their own work, rather it be good or bad and this of course floods the market making it harder to find talented writers to read. Yesterday, as I searched I read a lot of samples that looked like first drafts.

I honestly think that there should be a threshold that needs to be met. I’m talking about a review board not there to reject works, but to enhance and offer support. Most of the samples weren’t bad they just seemed rushed. Let me reiterate, I think self-publishing Is a great opportunity for writers, but I do think that there should be a minimum threshold that should be met before anything goes to the market. Do you agree or disagree? Let me know what you think.

Almost Done

I write what I feel

Hello again,

I have a little news update for you that I’m excited about. Today I should finish editing my short story “The Rustic Ride” this process at times was a little trying, not the writing aspect of it finding the time to do it. Like most of us writers I also have other practical day to day obligations that need to be met so I can’t always get to it when I would like to. It should be done today or tomorrow at the latest and It should be available on Amazon next week. I’m very excited about this story and I look forward to hearing what you think. Well, that’s all I have for right now.

Inaugural post

The actual cemetery I lived across the street from as a kid.

So, this is my Inaugural post,

My name is Lucius Wilson as some of you my already know or maybe not. If you’re not familiar with who I am feel free to check out the about me section on this website and there you find a brief summary of who I am, my back ground and my contact information.

I write short stories about ghost and paranormal activity. I grew up in Michigan and as a child I lived across the street from a very old cemetery and there use to be a lot of … I’ll just say unexplained activity going on in our house at night.

I will use this blog to keep those who are interested up to date on my upcoming projects and other events. I look forward to sharing with you and hopefully hearing from you.

Why do I write about the paranormal and ghosts?

Why do I write about the paranormal and ghosts? I’ve been asked these several times by my family and close friends. Honestly, it just seemed natural to me. It may have something to do with where I grew up and the things I’ve experienced as a child .

The fact that we lived across the street from a graveyard only made me more curious about ghost and the paranormal. I remember as a kid hearing footsteps on the stairs late at night or footsteps in the attic walking around above me at night. I wasn’t brave as a kid. I didn’t get up to investigate nope, I would just pull the covers up to my chin and pray for sunrise.

“The Rustic Ride”  a story that will be available soon is in part about an encounter I had with the paranormal on the road late one night.

I write about experiences I have had or have heard about and some I make up; I am a writer after all. But honestly, there usually is a grain or two of truth in most of my tales. Well, that’s all I have right now. Please feel free to contact me, my contact information can be found in the about me section.  I look forward to hearing from you.
